Frequently Asked Questions

Autumn

Why a specialist for older adults' mental health?

As we get older, our bodies aren't the only things that change. We also meet new psychological and social challenges: whether that be the loss of health, loss of a sense of purpose after retirement, or the loss of loved ones. With my expertise and training, I can address these unique challenges.

What symptoms and conditions do you diagnose and treat?

People in later-life can experience low mood, anxiety, apathy, hearing or seeing things other people can't (hallucinations), worries that they are being persecuted, and memory problems. These symptoms could represent depression, anxiety disorder, psychosis or dementia for example.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

I recommend you do consult a GP first before me, however I also appreciate this can be difficult if GP services are stretched. If it isn't possible to see a GP, I also accept self-referrals

Do you do home visits?

Yes! I appreciate that not everyone can travel due to mobility, health or safety reasons. I can also see people who live in Aged Residential Care. My home visit fees depend on how far I need to travel: please see my services for more information.

Do you see people virtually / over zoom / using telehealth?

I am happy to see people via telehealth for follow-up if we agree this works. I recommend seeing people face-to-face for an initial assessment as it's never quite the same over a screen!

Can I claim your fee on my health insurance?

I am a Southern Cross Easy-Claim provider. For any other insurance provider, I recommend you contact them in the first instance to find out if you can claim.
